If you cross your eyes, they’ll stick like that…

I thought I’d take a few minutes and use one of my blogs to address a common misconception of chiropractic care.  Like you, over the years I’ve heard lots of urban myths about lots of things.

If you cross your eyes, they’ll stick like that…

If you pop your knuckles, you’ll get arthritis…

If you start going to the chiropractor, you have to keep going…

Wait, what? You HAVE to keep going?  Where’d that come from?

Fact check; this is false.  You don’t ever have to START going to a chiropractor, nor do you ever have to CONTINUE going to the chiropractor.

Chiropractic care simply involves detecting and correcting spinal misalignments and then sharing with the patient how to best maintain that correction and avoid future misalignment. Simple.

The reason most people continue to follow up or “go back” has nothing to do with any secret time-release agent or magic spell that makes you need chiropractic care forever once you start going.

It primarily has to do with a different level of awareness of your body and its needs. We simply fix the things wrong with you that you cannot fix yourself…and then tell you what you need to do on your own to keep things fixed on your own.

Best analogy? Dental care!  You go to the dentist’s office so they can do the procedures you cannot do to fix the problems you cannot fix on your own…in fact, they often find very small problems you were totally unaware of because you had no symptoms, at least none yet… and fix them—such as tiny cavities that don’t hurt, or even just plaque that leads to cavities, then they send you home with instructions to brush, floss, use fluoride toothpaste, and avoid sticky candy.  Oh yes—and they tell you to come back in 6-12 months for another routine checkup—where they will carefully examine and correct all your obvious (and hidden) dental health issues.  Oh, and by the way, once you start going to the dentist? You don’t have to go back there either… but you ALWAYS do…because your awareness and attitude guides you to want healthy teeth. It’s called dental hygiene.

Chiropractic care is just the same! You go back periodically to get the hidden issues corrected, before they slow down your life and take your health away from you. It’s actually called “Spinal Hygiene.”

So what’s stopping you from making this simple step toward being healthy? Give us a shout—see what we can do for you.
